Des Nash 2

Today marks 12 months since the tragic passing of speedway stalwart Des Nash, whose legacy still holds strong within Australian Wingless Sprint Racing today.

Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life; it’s about what you inspire others to do. No better words could be used to describe Nash’s work ethic in all of his undertakings during his extensive involvement in speedway and the Wingless Sprints class in particular.

One of the founding members of the AWSR, Nash became Vice President in its second year, a position he held until his passing, and was also a former State Technical Representative. Nash’s commitment and dedication to Wingless Sprints played a huge part in the betterment of the class over the years, not only through his work behind the scenes, but also by helping to introduce fellow racers to the class and offering his assistance wherever needed.

In an initiative to honour Western Australian Nash, who had an extensive background racing Speedcars and Sprintcars competitively throughout Australia and overseas, the WA Wingless Sprints recently announced that every WA Title from here on in would be known as the Des Nash WA Title.

“Des was an invaluable member of the AWSR team for many years and his contribution has without a doubt helped to get the class where it is today,” expressed AWSR President Mick Parry.

“While today commemorates 12 months since his passing, Des’ legacy lives on in our memories and in the significant progress that the class has undergone. We are extremely thankful for all of his years of service and we will take today as an opportunity to celebrate his life.”
