For the sixth season running, the majority of Queensland’s best drivers and a number of interstate competitors are gearing up to contest this Saturday night’s Wingless Sprints 50 Lapper at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway.

With defending 50 Lapper Champion Troy Carey (NSW) unable to contest the event, due to competing at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway, this season will see a new winner.

A total of 22 cars are ready to for the 50 Lapper, which promises to be an action-packed night of racing.

Heading the line-up for the Queenslanders is Adam Butler. Regarded as one of the state’s leading drivers, Butler is focused on victory and nothing less. Following a fifth-place finish in last weekend’s NSW Title, he’s looking to improve on that result on home soil.

Apart from Butler, another front-running contender will be Glenn Wright. With a feature-race win already under his belt so far this season, he would love nothing more than to clinch victory in the 50 Lapper. Other contenders from the host state are the likes of Jason King and Timothy Harris.

Making up the Queensland nominations are Wingless Sprint rookies Cody O’Connell, Steve Thomsen and Tim Napper, along with regular runners David Ellis, Wade Mesken, Paul Robinson, Michael Lampard, Geoff Davey and Brendan Webber.

Leading the charge for the NSW-based racers is youngster Harley Smee. After a third-place finish in last season’s 50 Lapper, the Sydneysider is looking to work his way towards the top step of the podium.

Also flying the flag for the NSW racers are David Eggins and Kevin Willis, who are not venturing to Archerfield Speedway just to make up the numbers. Both drivers have been front-runners so far this season and are aiming for that to continue. Fellow NSW drivers looking for strong performances are Bradley Claridge, Mark Connelly, Mason Cattell, Matthew Wright and Warren King.

Making up the 50 Lapper field is Lismore-based newcomer Harley Thistleton, who will be driving the WA # 50 car for Western Australian-based owner Paull Farrall.

The format on the night will be two rounds of heat races and then the 50 Lapper deciding feature race.
