Chadwick Breaks Wingless Winless Streak

After being added to the schedule earlier this week the Wingless Sprints will take part in a non-points event this Friday night (December 2) at Adelaide Motorsport Park at Virginia with a field of 11 drivers set to take part despite the late notice. This meeting comes hot on the heels of the Club Show at the Murray Bridge Speedway which saw the South Australian Champion Joel Chadwick capture his first main event win of the season.

Last Saturday night saw a great turnout of 22 cars venture “Up The Freeway” to Murray Bridge but unfortunately the main event was cut short after a wild crash on lap two saw David Cuppleditch climb the turn three catch fence in a spectacular roll over with Roydn Bailey. With a lengthy delay the main event was cut from 20 laps to 10 with Chadwick defeating Robert Heard and Victorian Daniel Storer in what was still an entertaining race despite the laps being reduced.

Fourth place went to Anthony Tapley who had a great race with Victorian racer Travis Millar while Mount Gambier’s Mitchell Broome recorded an impressive sixth placed result ahead of Casey Vanderstelt, William Caruso, Dale Gesell and Aaron Doe.

After qualifying on the second row for the final Matthew Kennedy unfortunately finished back in seventeenth after an early race spin sent him to tail of the field and with only a handful of laps remaining he was unable to make up the lost ground.

Local Murray Bridge racer Brett Ireland was the only one who failed to take the green flag in the final after being involved in an accident in heat 4 which saw the #71 Maxim roll over after contact with a spinning car. The result of the impact damaged the chassis ending what was a promising night for Ireland.

Earlier the heats winners were Heard, Storer, Chadwick and Casey Vanderstelt. During the heats the run by Vandestelt was by far the most impressive as he showed great poise to hold out Kennedy and Millar in what was one of his best drives since joining the Wingless Sprint ranks.

This Friday night the field for the event at AMP has attracted 11 entries including Joel Chadwick, Darryl Sloan, William Caruso, Dale Gesell, Aaron Doe, Brad Evans, Spencer Taylor, Anthony Tapley, Mildura’s Jay Brown, Greg Cunningham and Haydyn Farrow.
