000 - Darcy McGlabe

Timboon’s Darcy McGlade scored his maiden feature-race victory in the Wingless Sprints class at Hamilton’s Western Speedway last Saturday night.

The 18-year-old, who is only in his second season in the Wingless Sprints class, greeted the chequered flag ahead of Luke McCutcheon, Glenn Watts and newly-crowned Alfie’s Excavation & Plant Hire Super Series Champion Daniel Storer, after leading the 15-lap feature race from start to finish.

McGlade qualified on pole position for the feature race, after two heat-race victories earlier in the night. South Australian Michael Ross, who started alongside McGlade out of position two, attempted to put the pressure on the leader; however, he was unable to keep up and slipped down the order in the early laps and ended up in fifth.

McCutcheon’s return performance was a strong one, coming away with a heat-race win, alongside Ashley Armistead, Jason Rigby and Ross, who all secured heat-race wins earlier in the night.

Rounding out the top-10 finishers in the feature race were Ross, Luke Storer, Mitchell Broome (SA), Alex Thomson, Ryan Watts and Adam Smith. The remaining finishers were made up by Jaimie-Lee Smith, Jason Rigby, Peter Merrett and Raymond Klemm.

A special mention must be made for B-main transfers Thomson and Smith on their top-10 finishes, after finishing the B main in first and third place respectively. Completing the B-main transfers were Klemm, Steven Hately, Merrett and Michael Skene.

It will be a busy upcoming weekend for the Wingless Sprints in Victoria, who will head to Simpson Speedway this Saturday night for the annual Peter Merrett Trophy Race and the opening round of the Intercity Signs Ladies of the Dirt Series at Nyora Raceway on the Sunday.
