Last Saturday night saw a hard-charging Travis Millar take top honours in the opening round of the Autobarn Eastern Challenge Series at Nyora Raceway.

Starting in pole position for the 25-lap feature race, Millar immediately got the jump on second-place starter Ebony Hobson off the line. While a determined Hobson attempted to mount an attack on Millar during the first half of the race, Millar proved too good, cruising ahead to take the victory and secure his early lead in the series point standings.

After starting sixth, Peter Logue put in a solid drive to take the final podium place in third, with Wayne Logue and Chris Halesworth rounding out the top five. Completing the finishers were Dayn Bentvelzen, Matthew Symons, Michael Skene, Adin Robertson, Wayne Hurford, Scott Irons and Georgia McLeod.

Travis Bergmeier’s night ended in disappointing fashion when he was forced to pull into the infield with just three laps remaining after losing power steering while running third. Defending Eastern Challenge Series Champion Warrick Taylor also suffered a premature retirement in the early stages of the race, as did Travis Watt after spinning twice and bringing out the cautions.

Plenty of action towards the back of the pack resulted in Marc Evans, Nic Green and Jaidyn Job also retiring to the infield with eight laps remaining, after the trio collided in turns three and four.

Earlier in the night, drivers battled the tricky track conditions, with Halesworth, Neil Grey, Peter Logue, Symons, Taylor, Wayne Logue, Millar, Hurford and Skene each coming away with a heat-race win.

In the B main, it was Job who was first across the line, securing his transfer spot into the feature race, along with McLeod, Taylor and Irons.
