Perfect Start For Kennedy

After the opening two Wingless Sprint SA main events of the new season Matthew Kennedy has remained undefeated as he easily claimed the 20-lap finale at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway last Saturday night. After starting from the front row Kennedy paced the field for the entire journey as he defeated Jarman Dalitz, who was driving the Pitcher Racing #55, and Ben Harris, who enjoyed one of his best results in his short Wingless Sprint career.
Following his latest win Kennedy was elated with the result stating that they are really starting to make gains on the car’s set up.
“We are getting our head around the set up of the car now and we are making the right changes when we need to which gives me great confidence in the car. Speedway is a confidence game and when you are feeling confident things click together. I couldn’t be racing without my great sponsors like Craneworx and the last two results are a great reward for everyone who supports our team” added Matthew after the event.
Fourth across the line was Jake Ashworth, who fought back after he spun out while he was involved in a great battle for the lead with rookie Mike Fox recording his first career top 5 result. The only other finishers in a race that saw multiple cautions were Renee Pestka, Mildura’s Anthony McMillan and rookies Patrick Monaghan and Nicole Southby.
One of the pre-event favourites, local racer Brett Ireland, had a tough feature event after spinning in front of Greg Cunningham with the later slamming into the #71 tearing away the fuel cell on Ireland’s machine. Cunningham’s night also came to an end with a severely bent front axle.
Earlier in the night the 17-car field was split into three heats, but the field was reduced to 16 with the Cody Atkins driven #76 encountering engine issues before the car even got out on track.
Heat 1 saw Brett Ireland take the win ahead of Cunningham and Dalitz with Mick Barker providing a scary moment as he climbed the wall, but he was able to continue to finish seventh in the 12-car line-up.
Kennedy would win the second preliminary with Dalitz and Ireland having another strong run to complete the top 3 while Ashworth edged out Kennedy for the win in the final heat with Cunningham back in third.
The next Wingless Sprints SA event will be held on November 3, 2018 with the first visit of the season to the Timmis Speedway in Mildura.
