With a host of talented competitors from across the country set to battle it out in the 2016-17 season Powranna Plant Hire Australian Wingless Sprint Championship at Carrick Speedway this weekend, the Northern Territory’s hopes will rest on the shoulders of one driver.

Despite being based in Western Australia, Sam Borlini will be the lone representative for the Northern Territory in the NT # 14 Eagle machine, owned by Mike Borchardt, which he piloted at multiple race meetings in the 2016 season at Darwin’s Northline Speedway, coming away with a number of solid results.

In addition to scoring numerous feature-race victories and minor podium finishers, the NT Club Champion impressed fans and drivers alike when he took out the NT Triple Challenge in August, by virtue of winning two of the three events which made up the Challenge at the Darwin venue: the Des J Nash Outlaw Challenge and the KeenQuip Racegear Feature.

Having also clinched the Darwin Title and the Britton Medal last season, Borlini is certainly not to be discounted, with his maiden Australian Championship campaign sure to be a strong one.

The Australian Championship will be held over three days, beginning on Thursday, February 23 with practice and the Calcutta. The following night will see drivers contest the first rounds of heat races and a preliminary feature race, with the remaining heats and Australian Championship-deciding feature race to be held on the Saturday night of February 25. The event offers a whopping prize pool of $22,000, with $4,000 to win.

Two weeks later, Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway will host the Tasmanian Wingless Sprint Title on the Saturday night of March 11.
