Preparations have been in full swing for Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway, ahead of the track hosting the 2016-17 season Powranna Plant Hire Australian Wingless Sprints Championship on February 23-25.

In readiness for the annual Australian Championship event, which will see a number of mainlanders make the journey to the host state of Tasmania, the Carrick Speedway committee have made multiple improvements to the venue, including further development of the pit and spectator facilities, as well as the track itself.

Having previously hosted a number of Australian Championship events for Street Stocks, AMCA Nationals and Junior Sedans as recently as last season, the 460-metre clay track is no stranger to accommodating large crowds and increased driver and team nominations at these marquee events.

“Everything is in great shape and we, as a state, are looking forward to hosting this hotly-contested event next month,” commented Wingless Sprints Tasmania President Chris Breen.

“Wingless Sprints have had a number of good runs at Carrick Speedway so far this season and with the continual improvements the management has made to the track’s facilities, this bodes well for the upcoming Australian Championship.”

The Australian Championship will be held over three days, beginning on Thursday, February 23 with practice and the Calcutta. The following Friday night will see drivers contest the first rounds of heat races and a preliminary feature race, with the remaining heats and Australian Championship-deciding feature race to be held on the Saturday night of February 25. The event offers a whopping prize pool of $22,000, with $5,000 to win.

Two weeks later, Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway will host the Tasmanian Wingless Sprint Title on the Saturday night of March 11.
