Dean Thomas was lucky to finish the Wingless Sprints main event on Saturday night, crossing the line with a deflated right rear tyre. He was even luckier as he managed to take the win after passing his brother Jeff on lap sixteen.
It was another entertaining race on a dry racetrack. Jeff Thomas took the lead from Troy Carey on lap four and looked likely to win the main event. But it wasn’t to be as Dean got to lead and recorded his first main event win since October 20, 2014.
Finishing third was Luke Sayre who was on an absolute charge to finish third from his starting position of fourteen. Fourth home was Mark Blyton who was doing double duty in both the winged and wingless. He was followed by Chris McInerney, Troy Carey, Nathan Dicker who once was one of the big movers after starting from position twenty, Marshall Blyton, Nikki Briton and Lou Pacchiarotta rounded out the top ten.
Eleventh home was Jason Davis and then Cody Boulding, Sean Dicker, Daniel Flood, Michael Sammut, Jeff Neve and Jamie Dicker. Newly crowned NSW Champion Jason Bates had an A-Main he would rather forget after crashing in the very early stages of the race and finished eighteenth, followed by John McRae, Sam Louttit, Mitchell O’Brien, Graham Flood, Jamison Blyton and Kris Johnson.
All twenty four cars finished on the lead lap.
Eight heats were run to qualify and those winners were Nikki Briton, Mark Blyton, Kris Johnson, Jeff Thomas, Troy Carey, Dean Thomas, Jason Bates and Marshall Blyton.
After the heats, top point scorer Jason Bates drew an invert 8 for the A-Main. The two B-Mains saw Sean Dicker, Sam Loutit, Daniel Flood and Mitchell O’Brien (B1) and Jeff Neve, Nathan Dicker, Jamison Blyton and Cody Boulding (B2) qualify.
The next event on the NSW Wingless Sprints calendar is next Saturday night, November 12 when the club makes its first visit to Gilgandra for the season.
