The second annual Gary Bowden Memorial Cup will be contested as part of rounds four and five of the Velocita Eastern Challenge, which is supported by Cheap Tyres Morwell and Dromana Mowers, for the Wingless Sprints this Friday and Saturday night at Rosedale Speedway and Bairnsdale Speedway tracks respectively.
Gary Bowden was a driving force behind the development of the Wingless Sprints class in Victoria. In addition to being the president of the class in Victoria, he was also a racer and well respected member of the local community. After Bowden passed away suddenly two years ago, the Gary Bowden Memorial Cup was instated in the 2014-15 season.
The inaugural winner of the Gary Bowden Memorial Cup winner was Adam Greenwood. Greenwood will not be racing this weekend after this season making the switch into the VSC Sprintcars class, but the field coming to Rosedale and Bairnsdale Speedways this Friday and Saturday night is one to watch.
Current leader of the Velocita Eastern Challenge point standings Warrick Taylor will be looking to solidify his place at the top of the standings. Adin Robertson goes into the event only 14 points behind Taylor and will want to make his way to the top of the ladder. A total of 52 points behind Robertson is young rookie Todd Hobson in third. All three drivers are looking to consolidate their positions in the standings.
Not in the running for the Velocita Eastern Challenge, but looking to contend for the Gary Bowden Memorial Cup are the likes of veteran Tony Moule, father and son pair of Peter and Wayne Logue, Wayne Hurford, Dayn Bentvelzen and Robert Johnson.
The driver with the highest point tally at the end of Saturday night will be awarded the Gary Bowden Memorial Cup and be presented with a perpetual shield at the end of season presentation.
On each of the two nights, there will be three heat races and then the feature race.
