Rockhampton’s McCosker Rocky Speedway is excited to host the Wingless Sprints Central Queensland Shootout on the Saturday night of December 17, which will see a strong field of drivers battle it out for CQ Shootout honours.

With a potential practice session on Friday, the CQ Shootout program will get underway on Saturday with three rounds of eight-lap heat races and a 20-lap feature race, which offers $500 to the winner.

With no local contenders from the Rockhampton area, anyone could take out the event, with this being the one and only meeting for the Wingless Sprints at the 440 metre coastal track this season.

“Wingless Sprints are a cost-effective class which always produce exciting racing,” commented Rockhampton Speedway President Joshua Keen.

“We’re more than happy to be hosting them later this month and we’re hoping that this meeting will give the class added exposure, helping it to expand throughout different areas of Queensland and encouraging the locals to get involved.”

Added incentives are sure to attract a top-class field, with the second-place finisher coming away with $350, $300 for third, $200 for fourth, $150 for fifth and $50 to all other feature-race finishers. Drivers will also receive $20 tow money per 100kms they’ve travelled, capped at $100, giving them even more reason to travel to Queensland’s east coast.

“I’m looking very forward to running the CQ Shootout at Rocky Speedway,” expressed consistent front-runner David Lindsay, who will travel over 330 kilometres from Mackay to Rockhampton in search of a positive result.

“I’ve only visited the track twice in past seasons, and I’ve had success there, so I’m going there to try and win again.”

To make things easier and reduce travel costs for drivers and teams, Rockhampton Speedway are offering free camping at the track, with many powered sites available, on Friday and Saturday nights. The track has also recently renovated its toilet and shower block, meaning drivers and teams won’t have to compromise on comfort.
