Cranes Combined Carrick Speedway is set to host the Tasmanian Wingless Sprint Title on the Saturday night of March 11, just two weeks after the 2016-17 Powranna Plant Hire Australian Championship, and drivers are being encouraged to nominate for the event.

With a number of mainlanders planning to leave their cars at the track following the Australian Championship in order to return to Carrick Speedway to contest the Tasmanian Title, the event will see Tasmania’s best take on some of the form drivers from around the country, in what is sure to be an action-packed showing.

Nominations for the event are currently open, with a non-refundable $150 nomination fee applicable, and are due to close by close of business on Tuesday, February 21. Should any late nominations be received following this date, drivers will be required to pay a late nomination fee of $250 and will start from rear of field in each of their heat races.

“We’re encouraging drivers to get their nominations in and avoid any late nominations fees or disadvantages when it comes to their heat races,” commented Australian Wingless Sprint Racing President Mick Parry.

“With the Australian Championship being held at the track just two weeks earlier, a number of mainlanders are expected to stick around for the Tasmanian Title, which will make for some fantastic racing when they go up against the locals.”

In an added incentive for drivers, the Tasmanian Title will offer significant prize money, with $1,500 on offer to the winner. Second place will receive $900, $700 for third, $450 for fourth, $300 for fifth, $150 for sixth and $100 from seventh to 10th place. All remaining finishers will receive $75.

The Tasmanian Title format will see drivers contest three rounds of 10-lap heat races and a potential B main if necessary, with the top-20 drivers qualifying directly into the 25-lap Tasmanian Title-deciding feature race.
