A number of NT Wingless Sprint drivers showed solid form in the 2016 season, coming away with some impressive results.
One of the drivers to beat last season was WA-based driver Sam Borlini, who regularly drove for local car owner Mike Borchardt. The NT Club Champion went from strength to strength in 2016, scoring a number of feature-race wins and podium finishes, not to mention taking out the Britton Medal earlier in the year, along with the Darwin Title at Darwin’s Northline Speedway recently.
Beating some of NSW’s best, Borlini also won the NT Triple Challenge, which was contested over three nights of racing, driving to victory in the opening two nights, which consisted of the Des J Nash Outlaw Challenge and the Keenquip Racegear Feature.
Despite having no previous Wingless Sprint experience, rookie Kyle Wiseman commenced his debut season earlier this year and showed promising speed, with his most impressive result being when he won the NT Open Championship on the final night of the NT Triple Challenge. Having already achieved his first feature-race victory, Wiseman will certainly be one to watch in coming seasons.
Josh Norman was a regular front-runner, having claimed two feature-race wins, along with a number of podium finishes, while Leigh Mugavin also showed solid form, visiting the minor podium steps.
It was a solid season for fast-paced Sean Tiedeman, who achieved a host of podium finishes. He will regroup in the off season and will be looking to capitalise on his speed moving forward in order to clinch the top spot, while Jarrod Garraway also had a positive season, finishing second to Borlini in the Des J Nash Outlaw Challenge.
The NT Wingless Sprints annual presentation night will be held on November 5.
