Kingaroy Speedway will play host to the 2018 Queensland Wingless Sprint Title on the Sunday night of May 6 and has attracted a stellar field of drivers from both the host state of Queensland and NSW.
Having the potential to be one of the hardest fought titles in the history of the event which is now in its ninth year, the title will be run in conjunction with the annual Kingaroy Show which every year, draws huge crowds, therefore a bumper crowd is expected for the event which will showcase great Wingless Sprint racing.
One of the hot favourites for the event is Brant Chandler. Having already notched up six feature-race wins this season, Chandler, who has made a comeback to the Wingless Sprint class after 12 months on the sidelines, has been in hot form all season and will be leading the Queensland charge.
Also, in with a strong chance is Cody O’Connell. After claiming a recent win at Maryborough Speedway, O’Connell will be looking to build on his strong season where he has performed very well in this season’s Ian Boettcher Race Parts Queensland Club Championship.
Two-time Queensland Champion Scott Thomsen is also amongst the nominations. Thomsen knows what is needed to win a state title and would love nothing more than to add a third title to his name. Thomsen will be joined in the field by his younger brother Brody and his dad Stephen.
Another driver to keep an eye on over the title event will be youngster Josh Dreaver. The Brisbane-based rookie has performed very well throughout the season which has included a podium finish at Archerfield Speedway earlier this season.

Amongst the NSW nominations, the list is quite extensive when it comes to genuine chances within the field and the list is led by defending Queensland Champion Daniel Flood. Last season’s event at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils saw Flood race away for a surprising win and he will return to defend the title against some strong opposition.
Also flying the flag for NSW will be Lismore’s David Eggins. Having come off a dominant performance at the recent Queensland Easter Trail where he won the opening two nights, Eggins is no stranger to success and will be one to look out for during the night. Fellow Northern NSW-based racers have been strong throughout the season, Robert Mazzer, Michael Butcher and Mick Reid, will also be on contention.
The format for the event will see drivers contest three rounds of 10-lap heat races with drivers looking to maximise their point scoring each time they hit the track. This will be followed by the 30-lap Queensland Title deciding feature-race, with the winner pocketing $1250.
There is merchandise available for the event with orders for coolers, t-shirts and hoodies being taken. Orders are to be placed through the Queensland Wingless Sprints Facebook page and must be in by this Sunday night (April 29).
