During the Wingless Sprints NT Triple Challenge at Darwin’s Northline Speedway, interstaters have been taking some time out to enjoy the hospitality of the NT Wingless Sprints and Australia’s top end.

A total of four interstate drivers from NSW in Sydneysiders Jason Davis and Nathan Dicker, and Dubbo’s Troy Carey and Craig Skene, as well as their crews, have travelled more than 3,500km to Darwin in order to contest two huge double-header weekends at Northline Speedway.

With a week off in between race meetings, the locals have done their utmost to accommodate their interstate guests, with local car owner Kevin Quinlan supplying his vacant building to the teams as a workshop and accommodation during their time in Darwin. Davis suffered an engine failure last weekend, so he has been generously loaned an engine from local Brett Sommerville in order to compete this weekend.

The visitors have also taken some time out from their racing schedules and car maintenance, in order to partake in a number of social activities, including an amazing boat ride on the crocodile-infested waters of the Mary River on the fringes of the Kakadu National Park (110kms south-east of Darwin) as well as a large barbecue dinner.

In a fantastic display for the sport of speedway, the NSW drivers also paid a visit to the Holy Family Catholic Primary School earlier in the week, where over 200 children, ranging from kindergarten (transition in the NT) through to grade six, had the opportunity to sit in the race cars and have their photos taken. The drivers spoke to the kids at length about speedway racing and also gave away prizes, which included scooters and merchandise.

A number of promotional activities have also been organised to support sponsors such as Total Tools in Winnellie, the naming-right’s sponsor of the NT Triple Challenge. The NT Wingless Sprints have without a doubt proved that Darwin hospitality is second to none.

The NT Triple Challenge concludes this Friday and Saturday night at Northline Speedway.
