Ti Bills Series Sets Sunline Record

By Phil Michell Motorsport Media

Following a long break due to the rainout at the Borderline Speedway in early December the Ti-Bills Wingless Sprints SA State Series returns this Saturday night for what is officially round 3 at the Sunline Speedway, Waikerie. In what is a record field for the class at the venue the event has attracted a staggering 37 entries, which is one of the biggest fields of any racing category ever seen at the tight and technical track.

Opening round winner Joel Chadwick will be out to repeat his performance from Whyalla back in early November and he will be joined by fellow podium place getters, Mitchell Broome from Mount Gambier, and Loxton’s Keke Falland. For Falland this is one of his home tracks but for Broome he may find it tough as he visits the track for the first time.

Chadwick will go into the event in the best possible form having won the State of Origin event at the Borderline Speedway on Australia Day.

After missing the opening round South Australian Champion Tyson Martin is back, but he was also present at the rained out event. Martin has a lot of catching up to do if he is to win the overall series championship so he will be out to win the feature event in an attempt to catch up the lost points.

Along with Martin the form driver of the season has been Jack McCarthy and he also has a good record at the Sunline Speedway. He has already won at Murray Bridge and Renmark this season so he would love to add Waikerie to the list.

Other drivers to watch throughout the history making night will be Rylan Furler, who was fourth at Whyalla, Mildura speedster Jordon Bolitho, Hayden Vickers, Anthony Tapley, who also missed the opening round, Jesse Alexander, Bronson Mauro, series sponsor William Caruso, rookie Mitch Rigney and Bordertown resident James Rodda.

The format of each round of the Wingless Sprints SA State Series will begin with Hot Laps / Time Trials, which is an element that is rarely utilised for Wingless Sprints. Each driver will receive 4 timed laps for time trials with the field split into heat race “row” groups with a maximum of 6 cars per group.

Following qualifying each driver will then contest two heat races, with each heat race being 10 laps. The opening round of heats will be fastest to the front based on the results from qualifying with round two seeing the fastest drivers sent to the back (inverted) complete with a row swap.

The last chance B-Main will be over 15-laps with 4 competitors to transfer into the 30-lap A Main, which will be contested by a maximum of 20 cars.
