Ash Hounsfield has tonight made his way onto the top step of the podium, this time by claiming the feature race at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway.
Hounsfield was strong throughout the night, claiming two heat wins and a second place to start from pole position alongside team mate Chad Pittard who had also claimed two heat wins from three starts.
As the fifteen lap feature race went green, Hounsfield got the immediate lead as Pittard appeared to strike mechanical issues and dropped back through the field.
Brad Taylor made the most of this, moving into second from his fourth starting while impressive youngster Alex Robinson, who started from position three after claiming a heat win amongst other solid results, slotted into third place and was holding off a snarling pack of about eight other drivers in what was a great effort.
Pittard eventually retired to the infield after two laps while Daran Humfrey got around Robinson for third place, with David Worrall and Brody Miller also making their way through.
Back up front through and Hounsfield was pulling away at a rate of knots, slowing only for a dust cloud kicked up by Brody Miller who had an excursion on the infield before continuing on.
Shortly after this, the biggest incident of the night occurred, the yellow lights coming on and quickly turning into red as about five cars piled into each other at a rate of knots in turn three.
This incident would eliminate four cars, Daniel Keen, Miller, Jake Robinson and Warren Hunter all with significant damage and leaving nine cars for the final five laps.
As the race got back under green flag conditions, Hounsfield again raced away, Taylor and Humfrey following but unable to keep pace with the leader.
Hounsfield went on to claim a strong win ahead of Brad Taylor, while Daran Humfrey held on for third place.
The Wingless now have a fortnight’s rest before returning to the Perth Motorplex on the 24th of November.
