It’s gearing up to be a big night for Northern Queensland Wingless drivers at Mac’s Speedway, Mackay this weekend with a healthy field of 11 cars nominated to contest for the Mackay #1.
Two South-East Queensland drivers, Q2 Brad Keiler and Q20 Brian Dixon will go head-to-head with nine local cars over three heats and a feature on the 410m Palmyra track. Keiler, who is returning to Wingless after a season off and with a new car, is using North Queensland’s winter on-season as warm up before the Southern season starts in September.
However, North Queensland’s on-form drivers such as David Lindsay and Jack Langley, who are currently equal-first in points in the North Queensland Club Points Championship, wont be making it easy for the visitors to grab a hold of the feature win. Fast-paced Lindsay took out the Reece Plumbing Moranbah PVC Cup at the end of June, and is looking to continue his winning streak and take out the lead over Langley in the points championship.
Saturday will also see the return of Steven Gravino to the field after he destroyed a car in April from an incident during a heat race, and will be looking to regain his previous winning form. New driver Deon Ryan will be having his first run in a Wingless after previously crewing on the Q37 of Shane Thompson.
The winner of Saturday night’s race will walk away with the Mackay #1 and $300 richer, with second place grabbing $200 and $150 for third.
Saturday night is also Family Fun Night at Mac’s Speedway, with face painting, lolly throw, cartoon characters and a chance to win one of three Pushbikes thanks to Andergrove Store.
Mac’s Speedway’s spectator gates open at 4pm, with racing from 6pm.
