Nathan Walton has tonight put in the best performance of his short career to claim his first ever feature win at the Perth Motorplex in the Kwinana Cup, also a round of the Keenquip Championship Series.

As the fifteen lap feature race went green, Brendon Wedge was high and Chad Pittard was low as the duo battled for supremacy. Pittard got the initial nose in front, but it was Nathan Walton who came from nowhere, diving through the middle of the duo coming out of the back straight to claim the lead.

Walton began driving away from the field, but the yellows came on with three laps completed for debris on the track, coming from the rear of the Alex Robinson machine and seeing him retire under the yellow light stoppage.

As the race resumed Walton again shot away from Wedge and Pittard as behind them, cars fought hard for position, Brad Taylor in particular holding off Ash Hounsfield and Brad Fitzgerald in a great battle for fourth position that would also include Darren Humfey in the next few laps.

Walton and Wedge began to pull away from the rest of the field, Wedge right on the bumper of Walton as they circulated on the low line.

With eight laps complete the yellows again came on, this time for Cody Dobinson who spun in the middle of turns three and four.

Again the race resumed with Walton holding off Wedge in what was quickly becoming a giant killing performance by Walton as he seemed to have an answer for everything that was thrown at him.

Pittard was back on the scene not long after, looking for a way around Wedge, which in turn allowed Walton a little bit of breathing room as he set about building up his leading over his battling foes.

With only a couple of laps to go, the gap suddenly closed, Pittard disposed of Wedge and was alongside Walton as the white flag flew, but Walton held his nerve and found a little bit extra power to pull in front and go on to grab a great win by just 0.166 seconds ahead of Pittard, while Wedge came home third.

Walton’s first ever feature win was made even more impressive by the fact that he elected to play his Joker card to double his points earlier in the night, setting him up well in the overall Keenquip Championship Series!

Overall, it was also another impressive effort by the Wingless Sprints, with fifteen of the original sixteen starters completing the distance.

Daran Humfrey still leads the Perth Motorplex Track Championship, but it is only by a slender two points ahead of Chad PIttard, while Ash Hounsfield and Brendon Wedge are just six further points back.

The next event for the Wingless Sprints will be this coming weekend in Bunbury, with an event on Saturday, the 1st of December, doubling as round six of the Keenquip Championship Series. Stay tuned for further details to be released on that one later this week!
