Borderline TiBills Win For Martin

By Phil Michell Motorsport Media

Tyson Martin continued his love of the Borderline Speedway at Mount Gambier as he defeated a strong line-up in Round 2 of the TiBills Wingless Sprints SA Race Series last Saturday night. After starting the A-Main on the outside of the front row Martin ran side by side with pole sitter Matthew Symons throughout the opening lap but Martin edged ahead at the completion of the lap and that would be last time that the field was anywhere near the tail tank of the SA#1.

For a majority of the race Luke Weel was the best of the rest as he ran in the third position ahead of Rylan Furler, Blake Walsh and local racer Kirby Hilyer.

With twelve laps to go the caution light came out for Caleb Evans who slammed the turn 4 wall and was collected by Jesse Alexander, with both cars retiring to the infield. The restart provided a shake up to the order as Blake Walsh got by Luke Weel and he started to reel in the leaders on what was a lightning fast, hooked up racing surface.

With six laps to go Symons ran high in turn four allowing Furler through into second but Martin was starting to disappear out front and from that point Martin went on to win easily by over 2.5 seconds ahead of Furler, Symons, Walsh and Weel. Hillyer held on for sixth while Mitch Broome won the “Hard Charger Award” after starting from position nineteen. Kaitlin Vickers, Luke Johnson and Chris Ansell rounded out the top 10.

Following his win Martin was thrilled with his victory stating that it was harder than what it looked.

“It was a hard night with forty-five tough cars with some of the best cars from Victoria coming across. I am stoked to get a win in this fantastic series for Wingless. The track put on some great racing in the heats and the feature, and we were just lucky to get a race in considering the weather lately” added Tyson Martin.

Earlier eight heat races were conducted with Bronson Mauro, Tyson Martin, Jesse Alexander and Rylan Furler making it a South Australian clean sweep of the opening round while Luke Weel, Chris Ansell and Matthew Symons secured heat wins for the Victorians in the second round of heats. Kaitlin Vickers also greeted the chequers first in a preliminary heat race.

Matthew Tyler, Corey Brougham, Mitch Broome and Andy Thomas were the four drivers who transferred to the back of the A-Main via the last chance qualifier.

Following Round 2 of the TiBills Wingless Sprint Race Series Rylan Furler leads on 200 points ahead of Tyson Martin (168), Jesse Alexander (145), Bronson Mauro (144) and Jenna Kervers (142).
