Battle of the Border In Ti Bills Series

By Phil Michell Motorsport Media

After a disappointing end to the opening round at the Whyalla Speedway, where the A-Main was cancelled, the Ti Bills Wingless Sprints SA Race Series will be back on track this Saturday night (December 9) as the Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier hosts Round 2. Last season the Borderline Speedway round of the series remained incomplete after a rain out at the first attempt, prior to the second attempt being abandoned due to fog so hopefully this weekend a round winner will be crowned.

A total of 43 nominations has been received for this weekend with the field full of local and interstate talent, therefore picking a winner is almost impossible. In fact, for many just making the A-Main will be an achievement let alone being able to finish on the podium.

The entry list as good as any event seen in Australia this season with the leading South Australians such as State Champion Tyson Martin, Jack McCarthy, who leads the series after Round 1, Mitch Broome, Rylan Furler, William Caruso, Hayden Vickers, Jenna Kervers, Bronson Mauro, Sam Martin, and Kirby Hillyer.

Of the locals both Sam Martin and Tyson Martin are feature winners this season, Mitch Broome was a runner-up last weekend at the Simpson Speedway, Jack McCarthy top qualified at Whyalla and William Caruso has been travelling to several Victorian races of late, so they are the drivers who are in the best current form.

Of the Victorians you can expect Cobden’s Blake Walsh to be near the front along with Luke McCutcheon, Luke Weel, Chris Ansell, Mark Hutchins, and Cam O’Brien. With the Borderline Speedway being so close to Victoria the venue can feel like a home track to the interstaters, as they race there just as often if not more than the South Australians, so don’t be surprised if they walk away with the victory on Saturday night.

The format for round 2 of the Ti Bills Wingless Sprints SA Race Series will consist of two rounds of heat races, with each race being 10 laps prior to a Stars Dash. A C-Main will also be required along with a B-Main, with four drivers transferring into the 20 car A-Main.
