Bairnsdale Speedway played host to the Wingless Sprint class on Saturday night, and it was veteran racer Daryl Logue who came out on top.

Travelling from the nearby Gippsland region of Morwell, Logue was victorious in two of the three heat races and then backed up that form later in the night to come away with the feature-race win.

Logue proved too strong for his rivals throughout the feature race and paced the field for the entire 10-lap distance. At the fall of the chequered flag, he defeated Brett Pope in second and Sean Kuypers in third. Finishing just off the podium in fourth was Ben Grey.

The night’s hard-luck story was Ross Jarred, who was unbale to take part in the feature race, due to a mechanical issue. Jarred had shown good speed during the heat races and was shaping to most likely be Logue’s biggest threat in the feature race.

In the heat-race action, Logue picked up a pair of wins by downing Jarred and Pope in the opening heat race and then outpacing Pope and Grey in the third and final heat race, while Jarred won the other heat race ahead of Logue and Pope in the second heat race.

Late scratchings from the night’s proceedings were John Rotheram and Travis Evans.

With this coming weekend off, the Wingless Sprints will be returning to action at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on the Saturday night of January 26 for the running of the Victorian Title. This event has so far attracted over 50 nominations, which includes multiple interstate entries.
